RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team will be looking to return to the win column as the Bears travel to Mars Hill, NC to face Mars Hills Saturday, Oct. 3 . Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. at the Ammons Family Athletic Center & Meares Stadium
The Bears are coming off a hard fought 3-3 double overtime draw with King (Tenn.) on Tuesday, Oct.1., bringing their record to 1-6-1 on the season.
Shaw scored all three goals in the second half. With four minutes remaining in regulation and minutes away from their first win since their season opening victory, King (Tenn.) converted a penalty kick for the equalizer. Neither team scored in the additional 20 minutes resulting in a 3-3 draw.
Mars Hills enters the match coming off back-to-back shutout losses to Coker and Wingate by identical 3-0 scores. The Lions enter Saturday's contest with an overall record of 2-5-1. Mars Hill puts an average of 13.1 shots on goal per match while allowing 2.18 goals on the defensive end.
Shaw will be looking to avenge its lone loss to the Lions in series history as Mars Hill scored two early first half goals and withheld a late Bears push to come away with the 2-1 victory over Shaw during the 2018 season on Oct.13.
