RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team fell on the road Saturday afternoon 5-3 to Catawba in Salisbury, NC.
Shaw falls to 1-6 overall dropping their sixth straight match. Catawba now improves to 4-2 overall.
The Bears struck first in the 8th minute as freshman Gianluca Evers (Brunswick,Germany) found the back of the net unassisted. Shaw's 1-0 lead lasted just over four minutes as Catawba's Ben Bielby scored the first of his two goals on the day at the 12 minute mark.
The teams again alternated goals as junior Danny Cameron (Edinburgh, Scotland) broke the 1-1 tie with a goal from freshman Brandon Linares (Kernersville,NC) to put Shaw ahead 2-1. Biedlby found pay dirt again at the 32 minute mark tying the match at 2-2. The Indians added more goal just before the half to put Catawna ahead 3-2 at the break.
While trailing 4-2 after a Catawba goal early in the 2nd half, Cameron scored his second goal of the contest unassisted. The Indians would ice the contest at the 76 minute mark with a goal from Michael Nuguse to provide the final score of 5-3.
Catawba outshot the Bears 23-9 overall for the match limiting Shaw to just four shots in the first half and five in the second.
Shaw returns to action Tuesday for a home matchup versus King (Tenn). Kick off is slated for 3 p.m. from the MAC.
