RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team will stay at home this weekend for another home match against Chowan University on Sunday, Sept.15 at the MAC Sports & Entertainment Complex (8924 Midway West Road, Raleigh, NC 27617). Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
The Bears will be looking to avenge a heartbreaking last second 2-1 loss to Barton on Wednesday, Sept. 11. With just 19 seconds remaining in full time, Barton scored to snatch the victory out of the paws of the Bears.
Freshman Brandon Linares (Kernersville, NC) continues to light the nets up scoring his second goal in as many games. Shaw has scored three goals on the early season while also giving up three goals.
CU enters the contest with a 0-1 record with their only contest resulting in a 5-1 loss at Wingate on Saturday Sept.7. The Hawks found themselves down 3-0 early in the first half. Wingate added another goal before halftime and one more in the second half for the final deficit. Sam Hall scored the lone goal for Chowan.
This will be the second matchup all-time between the Bears and Hawks as Chowan leads the series 1-0 with a 5-1 victory over Shaw on Aug. 30, 2018. The Hawks broke open a 1-1 halftime score with four goals in the second half for the 5-1 victory in Murfreesboro, N.C.
