RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's soccer head coach Matt Brown has announced the 2018 fall schedule Tuesday afternoon. This year's slate will feature 17 regular season matches, three matches at Durham County Memorial Stadium. There will be an exhibition match played at Cape Fear before the regular season on Aug. 13 in Wilmington, NC.


Shaw is coming a 6-6-2 overall record, capping off a two-match win-streak during its inaugural 2017 season.


Of the 11 Division II opponents, one played in the NCAA Regional Tournament while one finished runner-up in its conference tournament last year. Shaw will have seven home games this season, with two contests at the MAC Sports and Entertainment venue, one match at Wake Med Soccer Park in addition to the three at Durham County Memorial.


The 2018 season will also mark the first year for men's and women's soccer under new leadership of Brown who was named the head coach on May 8.


"The 2018 schedule is much stronger than our inaugural season so it's going to be a very challenging year," said Brown. "We look forward to competing against high level NCAA DII opponents as we continue to grow and develop our soccer program here at Shaw."


The season kicks off Aug. 30 with a road match at Chowan before the Bears host West Liberty for the first time in program history and home opener on Sept. 2 at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Shaw will host Shenandoah the next day also at Wake Med Park (Sept. 3) before hitting the road for a three-game slate at King (Sept. 5), Christendom (Sept. 8) and Bloomsburg (Sept. 9).


Sept. 15 marks the beginning a three-match home stretch for the Bears, Shaw will face Cincinnati Clermont (Sept. 15) at Durham County Memorial Stadium while both matches between Barton (Sept. 19) and Coker (Sept. 25) will be played at the MAC.


The Bears will head to Georgia Southwestern State on Oct. 3 and then travel to face Catawba on Oct. 6 and Piedmont International on Oct. 8.


Shaw plays host to Mount Olive for Senior Day on Oct.10 at Durham County Memorial Stadium before wrapping up their final road slate with a contest at Mars Hill (Oct. 13), Mid Atlantic (Oct. 22) and Lenoir-Rhyne for its road finale on Oct. 24.


The regular season will conclude on Oct. 29 when the Bears host Salem at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
