RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's basketball team will open play in the 2020 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament as they face Fayetteville State University Wednesday, Feb. 25 inside the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. Tipoff is scheduled for 10 a.m.
Shaw enters the contest 5-22 overall. Junior guard Greyson Kelley (Raleigh, NC) leads the Bears in scoring averaging 19.2 ppg. Senior guard DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) adds 14.4 ppg while freshman guard Nigel Martin (Cleveland, OH) follows with 14.0 ppg and 6.4 rebounds per outing. Forward Alex Owens (Brandenton, FL) adds 10.1 ppg with 8.9 rebounds per contest in his last seven contests.
Fayetteville State University enters the contest at 21-7 overall, finishing third in the South. The Broncos closed out the regular season with a 57-52 victory of Saint Augustine's University Saturday (Feb. 22) in Fayetteville, N.C. Jalen Seegars leads the FSU offense scoring 16.4 ppg followed by Denzell Hosch at 10.0 ppg.
The Bears and Broncos will be battling for the third time this season and second time in less than a week. FSU swept both meetings during the regular season 85-77 on Jan. 11 in Fayetteville and 78-64 in Raleigh on Feb. 19.
With a victory, the winner will advance to quarterfinals Thursday, Feb. 27 to face the second seed from the Northern Division, Virginia Union University inside the Spectrum Center. Tipoff is slated for 7.p.m.
