CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the fourth time this season, Shaw University freshman Nigel Martin of the men's basketball team was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of the Week announced Monday.
Martin averaged 19 points and four rebounds in two games this past week to earn his fourth rookie of the week honor of the season.
The Cleveland, OH native shot 55-percent from the field and 33-percent from three while going a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line. Martin helped the Bears to a 1-1 record with their win coming against Lincoln (PA), a game in which he had 16 points.
The 6-5 guard currently leads all CIAA freshmen in both scoring and rebounding at 15.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, ranking tenth and seventh in the conference respectively.
Shaw will host Johnson C. Smith Wednesday, Feb. 5 for White Out in Spaulding at 8 p.m. The doubleheader begins with the women's game also against JCSU at 6 p.m.
