LINCOLN, Pa. – The Shaw University men's basketball team broke a season long 13-game losing streak by defeating Lincoln University (PA), 86-80 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division matchup Saturday afternoon.


The Bears improve to 5-17 overall, 2-10 in the CIAA while the Lions fall to 7-16 overall and 3-7 in the CIAA.


Shaw fell behind 16-10 before battling back to tie the contest at 18-18 at the 12:12 mark. The Bears fell behind again by the score of 28-20 before trimming the Lions lead to 32-29 with 2:47 left before the break. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the way before Lincoln (PA) scored just before the buzzer to go ahead 41-35 at halftime.


 A balanced effort from Shaw saw eight different Bears get into the scoring column with senior guard Greyson Kelley (Raleigh, NC) leading Shaw with nine points during the first stanza.


The Bears opened the second half clicking on offense eventually tying the game at 48-48 with 16:48 left on a Kelley three pointer before Shaw took its first lead of the game with 10:29 left at 60-58.  Senior guard DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) broke a 68-68 tie with a three pointer as 5:54 showed on the game clock.


After taking a 77-75 lead with 2:28 remaining on two free throws from Kelley, Shaw came up with back-to-back defensive stops inside of a minute leading 79-77 followed by a game sealing dunk from freshman forward Darian Allen (Durham, NC). Free throws the rest of way provided the final cushion for the Bears in the victory.


Kelley led the Bears with 25 points while freshman guard Nigel Martin (Cleveland, OH) chipped in 16 points.


Shaw returns to action Wednesday; Feb. 5 as the Bears host Southern Division foe Johnson C. Smith University. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. inside of historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
