RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's basketball team will head to Bowie, Md., to face the Bulldogs of Bowie State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division matchup Sat. Jan. 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside of A.C. Jordan Arena.
The Bears enter the contest at 4-12 overall, 1-8 (CIAA) and 0-5 Southern Division play, most recently dropping an overtime heartbreaker to Livingstone College on Jan. 15, 109-104 at home.
Junior guard Greyson Kelley (Raleigh, NC) enters the contest averaging 20.2 points per game while also ranking third overall in the CIAA. Kelley also leads the CIAA in free throw percentage at 89-percent. Freshman guard Nigel Martin (Cleveland, OH) follows at 16.3 per contest which places him in the top-10 overall in the CIAA. Senior guard DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) rounds up the double-digit scoring for Shaw at 15.6 points per game. Kelsie is the CIAA leader in made three-point field goals and three-point percentage.
The Bears are averaging 81.9 points per game offensively while shooting 43-percent from the floor. Shaw continues to trend towards the top of the CIAA overall in three-point shooting at 38 percent per contest while leading in overall three-point attempts made.
Bowie State (10-8, 2-3 CIAA,) enters Saturday's matchup coming off a 70-58 loss to Fayetteville State Monday. Jan 13 on the road. The Bulldogs have dropped their last two contest. Cameron Hayes leads a trio of double-figure scorers averaging Bulldogs at 14.4 points per game, David Belle follows at 11.4 points per outing while Saiquan Jamison follows with 10.7, respectively.
This will be the second meeting between the Bears and the Bulldogs this season as the Bulldogs came away with a 100-87 overtime victory against Shaw in a non-conference matchup in Raleigh on Dec. 7.
