RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's basketball team battled back from deficits of 21 and nine late in the second half but fell to Livingstone College in overtime 109-104 Monday evening inside historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

The opening minutes of the contest saw Shaw hold an early lead just before the first media timeout.  After the break, the Bears found themselves scoreless for almost six minutes and falling behind as many as 21. Shaw caught fire added in with a few defensive stops to trim to Blue Bears lead to just seven with the help of a 17-4 run. Shaw went into the half with the momentum still trailing but by six at 39-33.

LC kept their lead at six for much of the beginning of the half before freshman guard Nigel Martin (Cleveland, OH) converted a three-point play followed by a four-point play to tie the contest at 65-65 with 9:45 left in regulation.  Senior guard DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) tied the contest again at 70 even before Martin gave the Bears their first lead of the second half with a pair of free throws. Shaw again fought back pulling to within three at 107-104 before missing a tying basket and sending LC to the charity stripe to ice the contest for the five-point victory.

Martin recorded a double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Marvis Odia, II (Houston, TX) rounded out the double-figure scoring Bears with 10 points.
