MEN’S BASKETBALL TO TRAVEL TO FAYETTEVILLE STATE FOR DIVISIONAL BOUT

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's basketball team returns to the court quickly to face Fayetteville State University Saturday afternoon Jan.11. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Felton J. Capel Arena in Fayetteville, N.C.

Shaw enters the contest at 4-10 overall, 1-6, CIAA 0-3 Southern Division play after falling to Lincoln University Thursday day evening 82-66. The Bears shot a season-low 29-percent from the floor.  

 

Junior guard Greyson Kelley (Raleigh, NC) leads Shaw on offense averaging 19.3 points per game.  Freshman guard Nigel Martin (Cleveland, OH) follows at 16.3 per contest. Senior guard DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) adds 13.3 per contest. Kelsie most recently went over the 1,000-point career mark during Thursday's contest against Lincoln.

 

The Bears are averaging 80.7 points per game offensively while shooting 43-percent from the floor and 37 percent from beyond the arc.

 

Fayetteville State (13-3, 4-3 CIAA, 2-1 Southern Division) enters Saturday's matchup coming off a 68-67 defeat from the hands of Johnson C. Smith University Jan.6.  Jalen Seegars paces the Broncos with 16.9 per game. Denzell Hosch follows with 10.2.  Darian Dixon and Mark Burton round out FSU's double-figure scorers at 10. 1 per game.

 

The Broncos are scheduled to make the return trip to Raleigh on Wed. Fab 19.for senior night.
