RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's basketball team will look to return to the win column as they face Lincoln (Pa.) University Thursday, Jan. 9. Tip-off from historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Thursday's matchup will not count toward conference standings and has been deemed a non-conference contest. Live coverage will be available on the Shaw Bears Sports Network which can be found on www.shawbears.com under the "Gameday Central" tab.
The Bears enter the contest at 4-9 overall, 1-6, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and 0-3 Southern Division play after falling to Claflin University Monday night, 79-77. The setback marked the Bears second straight loss by two points.
Junior guard Greyson Kelley (Raleigh, NC) leads Shaw on offense averaging 19.8 points per game which ranks third overall in the CIAA. Freshman guard Nigel Martin (Cleveland, OH) continues to improve on his average which now sits at 16.9 per contest which places fifth overall in the CIAA. Senior guard DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) adds 13.2 per contest.
The Bears are averaging 81.8 points per game offensively while shooting 44-percent from the floor. Shaw continues to lead the CIAA overall in three-point shooting at 39 percent per contest.
Lincoln (3-11, 0-4 CIAA) enters Thursday's matchup coming off a 93-83 victory of Livingstone College Monday night in Lincoln, Pa. Zariohn Blue leads the Lions on offense averaging 17.1 per contest. Deaquan Williams follows Blue at 11.3 points per game while adding 10.6 rebounds for the double-double average per game. Jordan Camper adds 10.4 points per game, rounding out the double-figure scoring for LUPA.
Monday's contest will be the first for of the season between Shaw and Lincoln with the Bears making the return trip to Lincoln, Pa. on Feb.1.
