RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's basketball team will end its longest road trip of the season as they travel to Virginia Union University Saturday, Jan. 4. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. inside Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

Shaw enters the contest at 4-7 overall, 1-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play and 0-2 in the Southern Division, recently dropping a road contest CIAA contest at Claflin University, 76-64 on Dec. 20.
Junior guard Greyson Kelley (Raleigh, NC) continues to lead the Bears in scoring at 19.3 points per game while freshman guard Nigel Martin (Cleveland, OH) contributes 16.4 points and 6.7 rebounds along with fellow freshman guard Dhashon Dyson (Chicago, IL) adding 12.3 per contest. Senior guard DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) rounds out the Bears double figure scorers at 12.1 points per outing.
The Bears are averaging 80.9 points per game offensively, shooting 44-percent from the floor while also connecting on 38-percent of their outside show. All three percentages rank top-3 of the CIAA.
Virginia Union (8-4, 3-1 CIAA) enters Saturday's matchup winners of their last six contests averaging 71.5 points per game. The Panthers are currently shooting 43-percent from the floor as a squad. Terrell Leach leads VUU in scoring averaging 21.4 points per contest. Jordan Peebles leads the way on the glass for the Panthers bringing in 8.4 rebounds per contest while adding 11.8 points per outing following behind Leach as the double figure scorers for VUU.
Saturday's matchup will be the first of two this season between the Shaw and VUU as the teams will meet again in Raleigh on Jan. 20.
