RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University junior standout men's basketball player Amir Hinton (Philadelphia, PA) has been named as the 2019 Division II Bulletin Player of the Year announced this week.
In late March, Hinton earned National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First-Team All-American, First Team All-Atlantic Region DII Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA), First Team All-CIAA, All-Tournament Team, 2019 CIAA Player of the Year, BOXTOROW Player of the Year and was recently named First Team All-American by the Basketball Times.
This past season, Hinton led the NCAA DII in scoring averaging 29.4 points per game. He also averaged 4.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game while shooting .894 from the free throw line. Five times this season, he scored 40 or more points in a game including a season high 52 points at Tampa (Dec. 19, 2018).
Additionally, Hinton declared himself eligible for the upcoming NBA Draft last month.
Over the course of three seasons as a collegiate DII player, Hinton as scored over 2,000 career points including 853 total points scored this season as a Shaw Bear – which was second in DII while leading the nation in free throws made (321).
Division II Bulletin has named a Player of the Year every year since the 1991-92 season. Hinton is the only Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) represented on the 2019 DII Bulletin All-American Team.
