SHAW’S HINTON NAMED BOXTOROW PLAYER OF THE YEAR

RALEIGH, N.C. – To go along with many other accolades this season, Shaw University's Amir Hinton (Philadelphia, PA) was named the 2019 BOXTOROW Player of the Year announced Sunday (Mar. 31) as BOXTOROW released its 11th annual Division II All-America teams with Hinton being at the forefront.

Hinton earned the 2019 BOXTOROW Player of the Year award after playing in his first season as a Shaw Bear where he led the NCAA DII in scoring averaging 29.4 points per game. He also averaged 4.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game while shooting .894 from the free throw line. Five times this season, he scored 40 or more points in a game including a season high 52 points at Tampa (Dec. 19, 2018). Early in March, Hinton declared himself eligible for the upcoming NBA Draft.

Additionally, Hinton was a recipient of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First-Team All-American, First Team All-Atlantic Region DII Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA), First Team All-CIAA, All-Tournament Team and the 2019 CIAA Player of the Year.
