CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Amir Hinton (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman Geremy Taylor (Pompano Beach, FL) of the Shaw University men's basketball team captured Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) accolades announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Hinton tabbed both CIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Newcomer of the week after totaling 95 points, including a week-high 35 points against Virginia Union where he shot 28-of-32 from the free throw line (career-high). Hinton continues to lead the CIAA and Division II in scoring (32.4 ppg). Additionally, Hinton racked up 13 rebounds, 12 assists and 6 steals during the three-game week.
As for Taylor, the 6-foot-4 guard was chosen as the CIAA Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performances last week, turning in a total of 31 points during the Bears three-game week. He scored a career-high of 16 points against Virginia Union and 15 points and four assists against Bowie State.
Shaw is coming off a 87-70 win over Lincoln (Pa.) Monday which snapped a seven-game skid behind a collective team effort by the Bears. Shaw (6-9, 2-5 CIAA) will host Bluefield State College on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 4 p.m. in Spaulding.
