The Bears opened up the contest with a 7-0 run capped off by a 3-pointer from Kelsie at the 18:20 mark. The Vikings finally got on the scoreboard on a layup from Aujameq Daniels that led to ECSU scoring five-straight to pull within 7-5. Shaw maintained the lead over the next eight minutes until ECSU took its first lead of the night on a 3-pointer from Justin Faison with 8:05 remaining in the first half.

The lead changed three times before the Vikings managed to outscore the Bears 17-10 to lead 42-34 at halftime. Both teams would connect on 14 shots apiece as the Bears accounted for 46.7-percent in field goals while ECSU shot 48.3-percent.

The Bears dug deep in the final 6:40 of play and as a result, Shaw pulled within one (77-76) after producing a 14-4 run but two free-throws from () created a 3-point cushion for the Vikings. On the ensuing possession, Hinton took his defender one on one and converted on a 3-point play to close the deficit 81-79 with under 3:00.

The next offensive possession for Shaw, the Bears tied the game at 81-81 on two free throws from freshman guard Geremy Taylor (Pompano Beach, FL) at the 2:07 mark. Shaw then took the lead after two good free throws with 37 seconds remaining but the Bears committed a foul sending ECSU to the line for two where Tyjhai Byers would ice both to send the game into overtime.

In the extra session, the Vikings scored the first four points but a monster jam from junior guard Davon Dillard (Gary, IN) kept the Bears within reach (87-85). The next possession, Justin Faison connected on a 3-point play to put ECSU ahead 90-85, however, two free throws from Hinton had Shaw within three but the Vikings edged Shaw 5-2 in the final seconds off of free-throws to seal the deal despite a 3-pointer from Dillard at the buzzer.

Faison led the Vikings with 24 points and four rebounds, while John Maynor contributed 18 points and five rebounds and Byers added 17 points and six rebounds. Shyheid Petteway finished with 10 points in the effort.
