CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) released its weekly honors for Week 4 of the 2018-19 season for men's basketball and Shaw University had two players garner weekly honors including junior Amir Hinton (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman Nakwan Kitchen (Orangeburg, SC).
Hinton was tabbed as the CIAA's Player of the Week after he scored a new career-high 49 points to help lead Shaw to a 95-90 overtime win over nationally ranked Barton last Tuesday. Hinton not only leads the CIAA in scoring but also is the nation's leading scorer for DII, averaging 33.6 points per game.
The award is Hinton's second of the season.
Kitchen earned CIAA Rookie of the Week after posting a career-high and his first double-double of season with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win against Barton. The honor is Kitchen's first of the season.
Shaw (4-2, 1-0 CIAA) will resume play on Dec. 13 with a CIAA cross division game at Elizabeth City State University at 7:30 .m.
