RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University men's basketball topped Lincoln University, 76-67 behind senior Benji Bell's (Gainesville, FL) game-high 34 points to snap a three-game skid inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium Thursday night. The win improves the Bears to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) while the Lions drop to 3-11 on the season and 2-3 within the conference.

Junior Khaliq Williams (Jacksonville, FL) had 10 points and four rebounds while senior Joshua Cassady (Raleigh, NC) added eight points and three rebounds. Bell and senior DeAaron Ward (Wilson, NC) both tallied six rebounds apiece in the win.

Shaw took the lead with an early 12-0 run and never looked back against the Lions in the first half. After holding its opponent to just nine points in the first 13:52, the Bears would lead by as many as 20 points at the 4:10 mark before the Lions established a 13-4 surge to cut the deficit; however, Shaw would lead 34-23 at halftime.

At intermission, the Bears would hold a 12-8 advantage in points in the paint and a 5-0 ratio in second chances but LU outscored Shaw's bench 19-5.

LU hung around for a while – despite Shaw's late spurt to make things mildly interesting late in the second half. The Lions would make a late push to cut a 10 point lead on a 7-4 run to get within five on three occasions with the last being with 37 seconds remaining but two free-throws from Bell and Williams put an end to LU's slim shot at a comeback.

Joshua Davis scored a team-best 15 points for the Lions, followed by Cameron Campbell with 11 points and Sean James rounding out with 10 points.

Shaw will return to action and host Bowie State University on Wednesday, Jan. 11 in Spaulding. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
