RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University men's basketball program will host the 2016 Shaw U Classic this week, beginning Wednesday, Dec. 28 and Thursday, Dec. 29. The Classic will feature Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) foe Livingstone College and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) members Benedict College and Claflin University.
Admission is $15 each day. Non-Shaw students with school identification is $10 while all children under the ages of five years old is admitted free.

ABOUT THE TEAMS
Shaw (5-5) will look to close out the 2016 slate with two wins during the Classic. The Bears are coming off a 75-58 victory over Albany State in the L.S. Epps Memorial Scholarship Challenge hosted by Clark Atlanta Dec. 17-18. Shaw split the classic (1-1) falling to CAU on the first day, 81-68 before earning the win over ASU.
The Bears are led by senior Benji Bell (Gainesville, FL) with 17.2 points per game while senior Larry Richardson, II (Garner, NC) and senior David Madol (Manchester, NH) contribute 16.1 and 15.8 points, respectively.
Benedict (3-5) will look to get back into the winning column after suffering a 78-72 loss to Saint Leo on Dec. 19. BC is 1-5 against non-conference opponents and holds a 1-2 mark in neutral sites.
The Tigers are led by Brandon Morris who averages 15.4 points per game.
Livingstone (2-6) is coming off two losses at the L.S. Epps Memorial Scholarship Challenge in Atlanta, Ga. The Blue Bears were defeated by Albany State (83-74) on the opening day and came up short 91-76 to Clark Atlanta on Dec. 18.
The Blue Bears are led by Roger Ray with 11.3 points while David Duncan and Darryl Bond round out the double figure scoring for LC with 11.0 and 10.0 points per outing. LC is currently on a four-game losing skid and posts a 1-3 mark in neutral sites.
Claflin (5-4) heads into Spaulding with momentum after defeating Limestone College, 70-68 in the final seconds of the game on Dec. 19. Ryab McNeil-Moses is the team's leader in scoring with an average of 14.0 points per contest, followed by Trevor Dantzler adds 10.3 points. The Panthers are 3-3 against non-conference opponents.
