ATLANTA, Ga. – Senior Larry Richardson, II (Garner, NC) scored 21 points to lead the Shaw University men's basketball to a 65-54 victory at Morehouse College on Friday night in Forbes Arena. The Bears improve to 2-0 on the season while the Maroon Tigers drop to 2-2 overall.

The Bears were able to weather a late attack from the Maroon Tigers and ultimately took control down the stretch.

Two other players recorded double-figure scoring for Shaw, including David Madol (Manchester, NH) who netted 16 points while Russell Robinson, Jr. (Chicago, IL) recorded a double-double 10 points and 10 rebounds. Defensively, DeAaron Ward (Wilson, NC) registered a team-best 12 rebounds.

The first half saw Shaw come out with high energy, as the Bears led 8-0 led by four points from De'Angelo Stephens-Bell (Jacksonville, FL). Morehouse got within three points (10-7) but a three-pointer by Richardson, II would put the Bears back up by six which led to a 13-5 run with 6:14 left.

Shaw kept its distance for the remainder of the half and would lead 29-18 at the break, ignited by 41.7 (10-24) field goal shooting while holding the Maroon Tigers to 17.1 (6-35) shooting.

In the second half, Morehouse scored five unanswered points before the Bears would weather the run by quickly stretching its advantage to 56-40 supplied by a host of Shaw players. The Maroon Tigers was able to get within nine with 3:47 left after a layup from Tyrius Walker but SU took control with a 9-5 flurry to conclude the contest.

Shaw will return to action on Monday, Nov. 21 when they host Clayton State for a non-conference tilt in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
