RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University and Saint Augustine's University will battle for the City of Raleigh on Saturday, Nov. 9 for the fourth annual Raleigh Classic and a highly anticipated Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest at the George Williams Sports Complex with the Bears being the home team.
The winner of the game will be presented with the Raleigh Classic trophy presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance.
Saturday's tilt will also be tagged as senior day and the Bears will honor 14 football senior student-athletes prior to 1 p.m. kickoff.
Live coverage will be available on www.shawbears.com with Corey Hodges providing the play-by-play commentary on the Shaw Bears Sports Network. Fans can also follow the game live on Twitter @ShawBears.
The Bears are currently in the hunt to make an appearance in the 2019 CIAA Football Championship with a win against the Falcons on Saturday and Fayetteville State loses to Winston-Salem State.
Shaw enters the season finale with a 5-4 mark overall, 4-2 in the CIAA and 3-1 in the South with a 21-0 road victory at Winston-Salem State last weekend (Nov. 2). Should the Broncos of FSU fall and the Bears win, Shaw would have a better divisional win percentage giving them the berth into the CIAA championship game to face Bowie State who clinched its second-straight appearance by claiming the Northern Division title. The CIAA Football Championship game will take place on Nov. 15 in Salem, Va.
The Falcons are 2-7 on the season, 2-4 in the league and 2-2 in the South. SAU is coming off a 26-17 loss to Johnson C. Smith on their Homecoming.
Since the first meeting in 1928, Shaw has holds the all-time series against Saint Augustine's with an overall record of 28-18-1 mark that includes last season's 27-10 win in the third annual Raleigh Classic also at the George Williams Athletic Complex.
