CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Shaw University junior Dast Sturkie of the Bears football program was voted as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Football Defensive Lineman of the Week Monday morning. The accolade comes after the Bears comeback 36-19 win at Johnson C. Smith University Saturday (Oct. 26).
Sturkie performed well for Shaw last weekend highlighted by seven tackles (five solo) and a sack. The Anniston, Ala. native recorded 4.5 tackle for loss and anchored the Bears defense that held JCSU to just 67-yards on the ground in the road victory.
A complete list of the CIAA's weekly honors can be found here.
With Saturday's win at JCSU, Shaw football is still in the mix for a Southern Division title and possibly an appearance in the CIAA championship. The Bears will return to action Saturday, Nov. 2 at Winston-Salem State for another road test at Bowman-Gray Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
