RALEIGH, N.C. – For the first time in 12 years, Shaw University football will be returning to Raleigh as the Bears play host Bowie State University on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the George Williams Athletic Complex on the campus of Saint Augustine's University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Saturday's contest is tagged as "Youth Day", in which Shaw Athletics invites all youth groups and organizations as well as surrounding school districts for recognition at halftime. Game tickets are $3 with a paid adult.
General admission is $25, Shaw faculty and staff is $15 with valid ID, all military and senior citizens (65 and older) is $10 with valid ID, visiting students with valid ID is $15, and all Shaw students is free is proper ID.

Shaw (0-1) will look for its first win of the 2019 after falling 38-14 at Division I, Campbell in its season opener last weekend.
True freshman and running back Sidney Gibbs (Black Mountain, NC) had a break out game for the Bears, rushing for 82 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown while senior quarterback Torrin Campbell (Toledo, OH) connected 11-of-23 pass completions for 173 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, junior defensive back Jaleel Scroggins (Raleigh, NC) registered 10 total tackles while senior linebacker Devon Hunt (Hamlet, NC) added nine stops and 1.5 tackle for loss.
As for the Bulldogs of Bowie State (1-0), the defending Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference Champions are riding winning momentum, coming off a 34-20 win at American International in its last outing.
Quarterback Ja'rome Johnson help lead a late run for the Bulldogs against AIU, posting 230 yards of total offense (172 rushing and 58 passing) and scoring two touchdowns. Deron Smith, the team's leader at the receiving unit charted 41 yards on three receptions while Anthony Howard was the leading tackler for the Bulldogs with seven (six solo) in the win.
This will be the 11th meeting between Shaw and Bowie State, since the first contest in 1977. The series is tied at 5-5. The last time the Bears and Bulldogs met was in 2016 with Bowie State winning, 55-13.
Saturday's tilt also marks the first conference game for both teams.
