RALEIGH, N.C. – Riding a four-game winning streak for the first time since 2010, the Shaw University football team will host Chowan University for its season finale Thursday, Nov. 8 at Durham County Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. The game will count as a nonconference tilt.
General admission is $25.00, Shaw faculty and staff is $15.00, military and senior citizens is $10.00, visiting students with valid ID is $15.00 while youth ages 6-14 is $7.00 and children 5 and under are free.
Thursday's clash will be the seventh meeting between the two squads as the Bears and Hawks all-time record against one another is 3-3. Shaw and Chowan have not seen each other on the gridiron since 2013 when the Hawks took a 29-23 win over the Bears in Murfreesboro, N.C.
The Bears (5-4) are coming off a 27-10 at Saint Augustine's in the third annual Raleigh Classic last weekend. The Bears won the game by outscoring the Falcons 24-3 in the second half after a slow first half.
Junior linebacker Devon Hunt (Hamlet, NC) who was named the BOXTOROW Player of the Week had an outstanding game, including a career-high 17 tackles, 2.5 tackle for loss and a sack to lead the Bears defense. Senior quarterback Keon Marsh (Queens, NY) who finished with 243 yards and a touchdown led Shaw offensively on 15-of-27 pass completions while sophomore wide receiver Daniel Bender (Jacksonville, FL) registered 179 yards on nine catches.
The Hawks is also 5-4 entering Thursday's game, coming off a 56-27 win over Lincoln (Pa.) last Saturday. CU outscored its opponents in all four quarters en route to the win.
Bryce Witt finished with 271 yards on 15-of-22 passes and five touchdowns while Tyrell Freeman registered 221 rushing yards on 27 carries and three TD's while Torry Baker added three receptions for 135 yards and three touchdowns offensively. Bryan Bryant led the Hawks defense with nine tackles and two pass breakups.
