CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Shaw University football had three student-athletes garner Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) weekly honors announced Monday afternoon by the CIAA in conjunction with the Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors.
Junior Marquis Gorham (Greensville, NC) tabbed Receiver of the Week for gaining a career-high 129 yards on nine receptions and two touchdowns in Shaw's 26-21 homecoming victory over Winston-Salem State.
Sophomore Kevin Sherman (Powder Springs, GA) was chosen as Defensive Back of the Week after registering a career-high 10 tackles (7 solo) and an 82-yard pick six against the Rams while junior Devon Hunt (Hamlet, NC) led the Bears defense with 15 tackles and two tackle for in the Bears victorious effort to be named Linebacker of the Week. Hunt leads the conference in total tackles (77) and tackles per game (9.6).
Saturday's win was the first time in four years that Shaw has won a homecoming game and extends the Bears win-streak to three-straight for the first time since 2013 under the leadership of head coach Adrian Jones.
The Bears (4-4, 3-2 CIAA) will face rival Saint Augustine's for the annual Raleigh Classic on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the George Williams Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
