RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University football team returns to action this Saturday for its first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference showdown as the Bears play at defending CIAA Champions Virginia State University. Kickoff is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at Rogers Stadium.
General admission is $15, visiting students with a school ID is $10, senior citizens are $10 and group tickets are available for 15 or more at the process of $8 per person.
The Bears are coming off a 42-0 road loss at Division I Campbell last weekend in the first ever meeting between the two squads. Despite the loss, Shaw held the Camels to just seven points in the second half and senior running back Dorrel McClain (Raleigh, NC) rushed for 104 yards and on the defensive side, sophomore Jaleel Scroggins (Raleigh, NC) added 11 tackles for the contest.
Shaw is 1-2 on the season and have only suffered setbacks to Division I programs (Hampton and Campbell).
Virginia State welcomes the Bears with a 1-2 overall record. The Trojans earned its first conference win on the road at Johnson C. Smith with a convincing 43-14 win.
In its last outing, Cordelral Cook threw for 191 yards on 17-of-29 passes and three touchdowns while Tre'Quan Reed tallied three receptions for 80 yards and a score. Defensively, the Trojans were led by Kwabe Boatend and Patrick Prosser who both finished with 3.5 tackles.
Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2013. Virginia State leads the all-time series over Shaw with a 41-11-4 record.
