Janok Selected CIAA Volleyball Setter Of The Week

RALEIGH, NC - Shaw University setter Lauren Janok was voted CIAA Volleyball Setter of the Week on Tuesday based on her outstanding play at the Mount Olive Invitational this past weekend. She helped lead the Lady Bears to a 4-0 record at the event.

Janok, a graduate student from Rougemont, N.C., displayed her all-around abilities but it was her setting that really stood out. She averaged 12 assists per set in the four wins.

The Shaw setter amassed 48 assists in a four-set win over Newberry. Janok also had 35 assists in a three-set victory over Shepherd, 36 assists in a three-set win over West Virginia State and 37 assists in a three-set triumph over tournament host Mount Olive.

The talented Janok also helped the Lady Bears win in other ways. She averaged 1.31 kills per set and 2.38 digs per set in addition to tallying 8 service aces and 6 blocks as the Lady Bears dropped only one set in four matches. Statistically, Janok is the top setter in the CIAA after two weeks. She ranks first in the category with a 10.04 assists per set average.

Janok has played a key role in the Lady Bears posting a 7-2 overall record, including a 1-0 CIAA mark. On Wednesday, Shaw will look to extend its six-match win streak this season against crosstown rival Saint Augustine's at historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. The match starts at 6 p.m.
