DeDecker, Marks Star In HBCU Softball All-Star Game

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 5) – Regina DeDecker and Syhia Marks of Shaw University both stood out in the inaugural Minority Softball Prospects (MSP) HBCU All-Star Game this past weekend in Lawrenceville, Ga. 

The HBCU Softball All-Star Game featured 40 of the best HBCU women's softball players from NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA schools around the country. 

DeDecker helped key a late rally as Team Betti Chapman edged Team Billie Harris 8-7 at the Grizzly Softball Complex on the Georgia Gwinnett College campus. Marks played for Team Billie Harris. 

A first team All-CIAA outfielder, DeDecker collected an RBI on 1 of 3 hitting and led Team Betti Chapman with two runs while adding a stolen base. She played both center field and right field. 

Team Billie Harris opened an early 6-0 lead but DeDecker was part of a three-run fourth-inning rally that pulled Team Betti Chapman within 6-3. She laid down an RBI bunt single and later advanced to third base on a single. DeDecker scored on a wild pitch. 

Team Betti Chapman moved ahead in the seventh inning with assistance from DeDecker. She stole second base as a pinch runner and later scored from third on a wild pitch for an 8-6 lead. Team Billie Harris scored one run in the bottom seventh but Team Betti Chapman held on for the win. 

Marks was a third baseman and pitched one inning for Team Billie Harris. She allowed two hits and one run but struck out two batters in the fifth inning.
