Antonijevic Earns CSC Academic All-America Tennis Honor

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 1) – Anja Antonijevic of Shaw University has been named a first-team Division II Academic All-American in women's tennis by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Thursday. The CSC NCAA Division II Academic All-America women's tennis team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Overall, nineteen student-athletes garnered Academic All-America honors on the Division II level. Antonijevic is one of 11 members to sport a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA). A psychology major, Antonijevic advanced to the All-America ballot after earning Division II Academic All-District honors in early May. On the tennis court, Antonijevic was selected CIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Year and led the Lady Bears to their fifth straight CIAA championship and an NCAA Division II regional berth. The talented netter posted a 12-1 record in No. 3 singles, including an 8-0 mark in the CIAA. In No. 2 doubles, she and teammate Sevval Ozseker were 11-4 overall and 7-1 in the CIAA. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. She must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches at her position, completed one full calendar year at her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically. This marks the first year there have been academic all-district and All-America teams in women's tennis after it was previously part of an at-large category made up of multiple sports.
