Three Shaw Players Selected To Academic All-District Tennis Team

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 9) – The Shaw trio of Chetna Kumari, Anja Antonijevic and Dana Moreno were named to the 2023 NCAA Division II Academic All-District Women's Tennis Team on Tuesday.

The 2023 Academic All-District Women's Tennis Teams, selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes women's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.50.

No student-athlete is eligible until she has completed one full calendar year at her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically. In the cases of transfers, graduate students, and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 1.

The three Shaw tennis players helped lead the Lady Bears to their fifth straight CIAA championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region playoffs this season. The Lady Bears did not allow a team point in CIAA matches.

Kumari and Antonijevic both earned All-CIAA honors and Antonijevic was selected CIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Below is info about each Shaw selection:

  • Antonijevic is a sophomore psychology major with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA). She was 12-1 in No. 3 singles and 11-4 in No. 2 doubles. Her CIAA record was 8-0 in singles and 7-1 in doubles.
