Lady Bears Set For CIAA Outdoor Championships This Weekend In Durham

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 3) – The Shaw women's track & field team will travel a short distance to compete in the CIAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Championships this weekend. Admission is free to the meet, which will be held at Durham County Memorial Stadium for the first time on Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6, at 9 a.m. both days.

The address to Durham County Stadium is 750 Stadium Drive in Durham, N.C. Click HERE for live results or go to theciaa.org.

The Lady Bears, designated meet hosts, are looking to improve on last year's seventh-place finish, and they appear to have the athletes to do it in this year's eight-team women's meet. Led by hurdler Symone Wright and throwers Kamille Patrick and Gabrielle Henry, Shaw is ranked among the top 10 in several events.

Symone Wright is the CIAA's top seed in the 400 hurdles and ranks second in the 100 hurdles. She is part of the 4x100 relay team which ranks fifth. The 4x100 team includes Anijah Triggs, Micah Wright and Brijette Basden.

Three Lady Bears, including the top-seeded Patrick, are ranked among the top 10 in the javelin throw. Daina Morrison is fourth and Reid Cobb-Phillips is seventh. Henry ranks sixth in the shot put and seventh in the discus while Ashanti Wright ranks fourth in the discus and seventh in the shot put.

Below is the entire list of Shaw's top 10 competitors, according to CIAA rankings compiled by the Track & Field Results Reporting System (tfrrs.org). The top eight finishers in each event this weekend score points in the CIAA Outdoor Championships.
