RALEIGH, NC - Akeythio Carson of Shaw University was selected CIAA Defensive Back of the Week on Monday for his key role in the Bears' 21-14 victory over crosstown rival Saint Augustine's this past weekend.

Carson amassed a game-high 14 tackles in the win as Shaw claimed the Raleigh Classic Trophy for the second straight year. Two tackles were for losses.

A redshirt senior from Gastonia, N.C., Carson finished the season as the Bears' leading tackler (63 total tackles for a 6.3 average per game). He ranks 10th in the CIAA in total tackles and total tackles per game.
