RALEIGH, NC -- Lillian Carlson and Noelani Beard each put up double-doubles to help propel the Shaw volleyball team to a 3-1 victory (22-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-15) over the Barton Bulldogs Tuesday at home inside historic C. C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
The out-of-conference victory improved the Lady Bears' overall record to 19-4 on the season. The victory was the ninth straight for Shaw while Barton fell to 5-12 overall.
Carlson had 10 kills and 10 digs, and Beard had 15 kills and 12 digs. Khamare Steppe added seven kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Jasmine Culp chipped 15 digs to go with nine blocks from Kamille Patrick.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears fought back from a seven-point deficit, but Barton held on to win the first set 25-22.
SET 2 | Shaw tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 victory in set two. The Lady Bears led from the opening point in the set to earn the victory. Shaw opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 16 points, to close out the set. Shaw's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Barton attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Shaw built on that second-set success with a victory in set number three to open up a two sets to one lead. The Lady Bears led from the first point in the set to secure a 25-13 victory. Shaw ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 24 points, to finish off the set, totaling 15 kills along the way. The Shaw offense got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Shaw closed out the match with a 25-15 fourth-set victory, winning its third straight set. The Lady Bears took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn the victory. Shaw finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, 20 points, to finish off the set. Shaw supplemented its offense with three aces in the set. Shaw got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Barton attacks in the stanza.

The Lady Bears will play their second home match in two days on Wednesday at historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. They will host Johnson C. Smith in the second meeting between both CIAA Southern Division teams at 6 p.m. Shaw won the first match 3-0 in Charlotte, N.C. in late September.
