SHAW STAFF SPOTLIGHT: WAYNE HALL

SHAW STAFF SPOTLIGHT: WAYNE HALL

RALEIGH, N.C. – ShawBears.com will look at members of the Department of Athletics at Shaw University staff with a weekly featured called "ShawBears Staff Spotlight." Each Wednesday, the website will profile a different member of the staff.

In this week's edition, we look at Wayne Hall in his sixth year at Shaw as the head strength and conditioning coach for the athletic department.

What do you remember about your first day working at Shaw?

Hall: Since day one the most memorable and powerful thing to me on my first day at Shaw was the history and everything it stands for.

What is one of your favorite memories of working at Shaw?

Hall: I have two fond memories that stick out the most while working here at Shaw. The first favorite memory was when I was an assistant coach during the 2014-15 for the men's basketball team and we came up short, losing to Winston-Salem State on the last shot by Larry Richardson at the CIAA Tournament. The heart and soul of that team was awesome, I truly loved coaching that team. My second favorite memory is training Destinee Williams, taking her from an average track athlete to an eighth place finish in 100m hurdles at nationals.

What does working at Shaw mean to you?

Hall: It means so many things but the most important thing to me is giving the knowledge that I have been blessed with to teach things that will carry over in life to make the student-athletes better people and more prepared for society.

If you were an athlete, what jersey number would you want to wear and why?

Hall: I am from the greatest basketball era ever so I wore #23 even before Michael Jordan. But Jordan was my hero for sure so #23 was it for my jersey number.

Did you play sports in college? If so, what sport and where did you play?

Hall: Yes, I played football, basketball and baseball high school. I got a basketball scholarship to Chowan when the school was a junior college at the time. I was being recruited by NC State, Wisconsin, New Hampshire and UNC Charlotte.
