RALEIGH, N.C. – will look at members of the Department of Athletics at Shaw University staff with a weekly featured called "ShawBears Staff Spotlight." Each Wednesday, the website will profile a different member of the staff.

In this week's edition, we look at Adrian Jones in his fifth year as the head football coach.

What do you remember about your first day working at Shaw?

Jones: I remember sitting at my desk get my office together and realizing that I had accomplished my dreams of becoming a head coach. Not only that but in the same conference I played in. Nothing but God!

What is one of your favorite memories of working at Shaw?

Jones: The win over WSSU for our homecoming in 2018 and then going to their homecoming the following year and beating them again 21-0.

What does working at Shaw mean to you?

Jones: Shaw means a lot to me, they gave a young coach an opportunity to come in and change a program that was down at the time. I am forever loyal to the Shaw family and can't thank Dr. Dubroy, Dr. Bell, and Dr. Carter enough for giving me the chance to lead this team.

If you were an athlete, what jersey number would you want to wear and why?

Jones:  I was an athlete and my number most of my career was number #1. I took pride in that number because on most teams the ehad coach gives the best player on the team that number. So I wanted to make sure that I wore that number well and represented it.

Did you play sports in college? If so, what sport and where did you play?

Jones: I did play sports in college, I played football at the defensive back position and ran track at the North Carolina Central University!
