RALEIGH, N.C. –Jonathan Paulk, Frantz-Kwame Smith and Ebony Moore of Shaw University were amongst 24 coaches across the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference chosen to participate in the True North Sports Coach Development Academy.
Paulk was named the head women's volleyball coach in August 2019, where he guided the Lady Bears to a runner-up finish in the CIAA Volleyball Tournament with a total of five players being named to the all-conference team - highlighted by the leagues Setter of the Year in Jada Flowers (Valrico, FL).
Smith is coming off his first full season as head coach of all three programs, men's and women's cross country and women's outdoor track and field where he previously served as interim in 2018. Smith had five runners receive All-CIAA honors in cross country last season.
Moore is in third season during her second tenure with the Shaw women's basketball program. She was promoted associate head coach in 2019 where she coached All-CIAA honoree Dejoria "DJ" Howard (Orangeburg, SC).
The Coach Development Academy is a three-part virtual course program designed to support and assist coaches in developing their authentic philosophy, team culture and program structure. Eight classes will be held online every Tuesday, beginning August 18.
Each class will feature guest speakers, including Dartmouth Head Football Coach Buddy Teevens, Florida Head Men's Tennis Coach Bryan Shelton, Clemson Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Shimmy Gray Miller, Alabama State Head Football Coach Donald Hill Eley, Certified Mental Performance Consultant Dr. Tiff Jones of XFactor Performance and CEO and Chief Visionary Celia Slater of True North Sports, which is hosting the academy.
Coaches were nominated by their respective institutions to represent the conference in the academy, which begins this week.
