SHAW ATHLETICS CELEBRATES WOMEN’S MONTH: 2003 CIAA SOFTBALL CHAMPIONS

RALEIGH, N.C. – The 2003 Shaw University softball program won its last CIAA championship in 2003 with a sweep of Virginia State, 8-1 and 8-5. That season, the Lady Bears earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament before falling to California (PA) and Kutztown.

 

Shaw compiled a record of 30-14 overall, just the second time in program history that the Lady Bears have registered a total of 30 wins.

 

Shaw's championship team roster was made up of Natasha Bain, Branda Best, Andrea Blake, Lavonia Cromartie, Tatianna Falligan, Dishondra Goree, Tanesha Haynes, Latoya Martin, Syreeta Mason, Jamie Sharp, Felicia Sprattley and Shonda Welch whom was named the 2003 CIAA Player of the Year and Tournament's Most Valuable Player. The Lady Bears were led by CIAA Hall of Famer and Shaw Hall of Famer, Dianthia Ford-Kee.
