SHAW ATHLETICS CELEBRATES WOMEN’S MONTH: ANTIONETTE IRVING

RALEIGH, N.C. – Antoinette Irving was a standout women's basketball player at Shaw University from 1984-1987. She is 10th on the Lady Bears all-time scoring list with 841 total points under former head coach and now Director of Athletics, Dr. Alfonza L. Carter.

 

A strong player with the ability to play both sides of the ball at the guard position, Irving became a consistent scorer and defender during her junior year. As an upperclassmen, Irving helped the Lady Bears to a CIAA Southern Division title.

 

In addition to her 841 points scored for her career, she collected 269 rebounds. Irving, an alumnus of Shaw University is also a member of the Shaw Athletic Hall of Fame and is currently the Sheriff of the City of Richmond in Virginia.
