RALEIGH, N.C. – Jessica Hawkins joined the Shaw University women's basketball team in 2003 after transferring from N.C. State. During her sophomore season, Hawkins came off the bench and was a part of a special group that helped move the program to dominance under head coach Jacques Curtis as the Lady Bears won its first CIAA title that season, the first since 1989.
Hawkins quickly became one of the top players for the program as the years progressed. She was named All-CIAA, CIAA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 (junior season) while also contributing to the Lady Bears second-straight CIAA title.
In fact, Shaw would 4-peat at CIAA champions from 2003-2006 as Hawkins was apart three of those championships – She amassed 863 points, 468 rebounds, 384 assists and 323 steals over for her career at Shaw.
Hawkins is currently an assistant women's basketball coach at Shaw University, now in her fifth season and is a member of the Shaw Athletic Hall of Fame.
