SHAW ATHLETICS CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH: VANN GREEN

RALEIGH, N.C. – Who was the first Shaw football player to get drafted in the National Football League (NFL)?

 

Vann Green was one of the greatest  two way player  for the Bears in his playing days. Green skills and his knowledge of the  game set him apart from his peers and the opponents across the CIAA.

 

Green received All -CIAA honors  at defensive back position. He was recognized  as one of the best defensive backs in the nation. After his playing days at Shaw,  Green went off to the NFL where he had a solid career with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns took Green in the six round of the 1973 draft. He is a member of the Shaw Athletic Hall of Fame.
