Lady Bears Bump, Set, and Spike into Shaw History
Raleigh, NC – Three hundred seconds transpired during the Shaw University Lady Bears’ travel to the athletic facility of their backdoor neighbors, the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College on Friday, September 28, 2007. It was just 4,800 seconds later that the Lady Bears would claw their name into the prestigious athletic record books of school history. Shaw nested the Lady Falcons 30 – 27, 30 – 17, and 30 – 25 for a 3 – 0 win; which is the first time of Head Coach Laura Aker’s four-year career and since Shaw’s 1995 – 96 Championship season.
Two days thereafter, the Lady Bears backpacked their high floating spirits to Bowie, Maryland to face the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University. Shaw kept their winning streak alive by beating Bowie 30 – 19, 30 – 24, and 30 – 22 for a repeat 3 – 0 victorious performance.
Unfortunately, the Lady Bears’ vehicle of success would come to a red traffic light at their third game in four days. Shaw was burned by the Lady Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia 22 – 30, 20 – 30, 27 – 30 for the loss.
The Shaw University Lady Bears’ record now stands at 8 – 7 Overall, 8 – 2 Conference, and 3 – 1 Division. The Lady Bears are positioned in second place in the CIAA Western Division and third overall in the CIAA behind Fayetteville State University and Elizabeth City State University.
Support your Lady Bears as they play host of their first home volleyball game against the Johnson C. Smith University Lady Golden Bulls on Friday, October 5, 2007. The first action-packed match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. in C.C. Spalding Gymnasium.
