Shaw defeats Elizabeth City State 3-2 in Volleyball Action

Raleigh, NC(October 25, 2006) The Lady Bears of Shaw University (9-7; 9-7 CIAA) defeated current divisional leader Elizabeth City State (14-10; 11-4 CIAA) 3-2 in five sets (30-25, 32-30, 27-30, 29-31, 15-12).  It was a successful battle for the Lady Bears.

Elizabeth City State has a great team and they have a great Coach in Linda Bell, but in the end my girls fought hard and they just never gave up.  Because of this I am extremely proud of my girls,” said Coach Aker.

The Lady Bears got out ahead of the Vikings 2-0 before they would make a run on their own.  Standing out for the Lady Bears was senior Jessica Perry (5’11, OH, Henderson, NC) with 23 kills, 60 total attacks, and 16 digs. Another stand out was Wendolyn Rabb (5’8, SO, OH/Prichard, AL).  As a team the Lady Bears accounted for 79 kills, 217 total attacks, and 86 digs. 

The Lady Bears take on the Panthers of Virginia Union University today at 6:00 pm. This game will take place in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
