WINGATE - The Shaw University tennis teams split atwin bill against the host Wingate University Tuesday afternoon at the Wingate University tennis facility.  The Wingate women won all three doubles matches to start the match en route to a 6-3 victory. The Shaw men dropped number one doubles, but won the remaining eight matches to take an 8-1 win. 

For the Wingate women (7-8 overall), junior Courtney Luce  and sophomore Kim Wenstrand won two matches each for the Bulldogs. Luce teamed with sophomore Erika Gluckstal to defeat Shaw’s Tanisha Hall and Monique Lawson 8-5 at number two doubles. Luce finished her day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Shaw’s Victoria Enebechi in the number two singles flight.

Wenstrand paired with senior Lauren O’Connell  to defeat Shaw’s Ayodeji and Ronke Oyelade 8-4 at number three doubles. In the number six singles flight, Wenstrand defeated Oyelade 6-1, 6-3. Shaw falls to 12-3 overall with the loss.
 
In the men’s match, Wingate junior Joe Kanekar  and senior Jacobo Uribe  defeated Shaw’s Kabiru Ibrahim and Ricardo Munar 9-7 at the number one doubles flight. The Bears won the number two doubles match 8-6 and the number three doubles match 8-4.

In singles, the Bears won all six matches. Ibrahim topped Kanekar 6-2, 6-2 at the number one singles spot, while Munar outlasted Uribe 7-5, 6-2 at the number two singles position. The Shaw men improve to 14-3 overall with the victory. Wingate is 3-12 overall.
 
Both teams return to the courts tomorrow (Wednesday) for road matches. Shaw visits Catawba College, while Wingate travels to Pfeiffer University.
