Lady Bears sweep Lady Falcons 9-0 in Women’s Tennis Action

Raleigh, NC – The Lady Bears of Shaw University came ready to play on Sunday as they defeated the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College 9-0 in match play.

Shaw won all three doubles matches, two of which came from actual play while the third one came by way of default.  The Lady Bears were led by Monique Lawson and Juanique Thompson who are the only two players remaining from the championship team.  Lawson and Thompson defeated Griffin and Braxton 8-2 in the first doubles match and Xania Steele and Kim Moore won the second one 8-1 against Joseph and Wheat.  The Lady Bears won the third match by default due to the fact that the Falcons did not have enough players to play the match.

Lawson, Thompson, Steele, and Moore claimed victory in their singles as well over the Lady Falcons.  Lawson defeated Griffin 6-1, 6-4 in the first match and Thompson won 6-0, 6-2.  Shaw won the fifth and sixth matches by default.

Shaw advances to 1-2 overall, 1-2 CIAA and will be back in action on today at 3:00 p.m. as they take on the University of District of Columbia in Washington, DC.
