Shaw Sweeps Lady Tigers 17-9 and 15-7 in Softball Action

 

Raleigh, NC – The Lady Bears improved to 7-7 in conference play and 7-15 on the season after the sweep of the Lady Tigers of Saint Paul’s College. With this sweep, the Lady Bears secured a spot in the in 2007 CIAA Spring Sports Championship.  Saint Paul’s fell to 4-12 in the conference play and are 5-19 on the season.

 

In the first game St. Paul’s scored two runs with their first time at bat but Shaw answered back with nine runs of their own in the first inning.  Shaw scored eight more runs throughout the final four innings to go on and claim the victory in game one by a score of 17-9. Shaw scored their 17 runs on only seven hits and two errors.

 

In the first game Lakida Whetstone and Crystal Sanders both went 2-for-2 with three runs of their own to help carry the Bears to the victory in game one.

 

The second game ended in five innings just as the first with the Lady Bears winning by a score of 15-7. St. Paul's led until the bottom of the second inning before Shaw had a great inning. They scored seven runs on four hits but they left three runners on base. The Lady Bears scored five more runs over the next three innings to go on to take the victory.

 

Joia King went 3-for-3 with four runs in the second game and Marquita Pittman went 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and scored twice.  Sheena Rivers also had a perfect game going 3-for-3 to help aid in the Lady Bears Victory over the Lady Tigers in game two.  Stephen Gray went 3-for-4 for the Lady Tigers in game two of the double-header.
