Shaw Splits with Livingstone 11-19 and 15-7 in Softball Action
Raleigh, NC – The Lady Bears of Shaw University get their fist victory of the regular softball season with a 15-7 victory over the Blue Bears of Livingstone College. Shaw improves to 1-13 on the year and 1-5 in conference play while Livingstone falls to 1-5 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Shaw was lead by Joia King who went 3-for-4 in the first game scoring two runs and a RBI. Shaw would lead for the first two innings scoring five runs in the first and three in the second but it was not long before Livingstone would really strike back. The one thing that hurt the Lady Bears in the first game was the fact that they were at bat 27 times and only hit the ball 12 times and gained 9 RBIs. Livingstone scored 19 runs off 18 at bats and did not do as well hitting either. The Lady Blue Bears only got four hits in the first game. The four hits prove to be enough to carry Livingstone to a victory in the first game. Most notable for Shaw were Aerial Sanders, Sheena Rivers and Darnetra Williams who all got two RBIs for Shaw in the first game. Moss lead Livingstone with two hits on four at bats and three RBIs in the Lady Blue Bears victory.
In the second game Shaw looked like a new team. The Lady Bears did not hit the ball any better in the second game as they were at bat 24 times and only hit the ball 15 times. Shaw scored their 15 runs on 24 at bats. Despite going through the different tasks Shaw was able to pull out the victory and lead the entire game. The Lady Bears were guided by King and Marquita Pittman who both went 2-for-4 in the game. Moss should up big for the Lady Blue Bears again in the second game going a perfect 3-for-3 and driving in four RBIs and score twice herself. Moss just could not do it be herself as Shaw just proved to be too much for Livingstone in t he second game. The Lady Bears held of Livingstone to go on to win by a score of 15-7 to claim their first victory of the season.
Shaw will be back in action on Tuesday, March 27th as they host the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University. The game will be played at Walnut Creek and set to start at 1:00 pm.
