Lady Bears Split with Lady Vikings in Softball Action 0-10 and 10-9

Raleigh, NC - In softball action today the Lady Bears of Shaw University split with the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University 0-10 and 10-9. Shaw improves their record to 5 -15 overall and 5-7 in the conference and ECSU also improves their record to 7-11 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

In the first game Shaw held the Lady Vikings scoreless until the fourth inning when they scored three runs.  Two of the three runs came from a triple by Alicia Graham who later scored on a pass ball to make the score 3-0 in favor of ECSU. The Bears did not score at all in this game and the Lady Vikings scored seven more runs in the fifth inning to go ahead in points with the victory.  Elizabeth City State would go on to win the first game by a score of 10-0.

Standing out for the Lady Vikings was Graham who went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs and scored two runs of her own in the first game.

In the second game the Lady Bears were ready to play.  Elizabeth City State scored two runs in the first inning and the Lady Bears answered back with three runs by Joia King who scored from a pass ball.  Lakida Whetstone scored off of a double by Crystal Sanders who was driven off of a double by Marquita Pittman. The Lady Vikings scored one run in the third before Shaw had their largest rally of the day in the fourth inning.  Shaw scored six runs on four hits and two ECSU errors and left one on base. This put the Lady Bears up 9-3 going into the top of the fifth inning.  Shaw scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Lady Vikings scored six more points over the next three innings. Shaw held off Elizabeth City State in the top of the seventh inning to go on to win by the score of 10-9.

Having a good game for the Lady Bears in the second game was Sanders who went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and two runs of her own; Pittman was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, and
Darnetra Williams was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. For the Lady Vikings it was Shane Holley with 2-for-4 and 2 RBIs.
