LAURA AKER
HEAD SOFTBALL COACH
Laura Aker is entering her third year as Shaw University’s Head Softball Coach. Going into the 2006 season, Aker has an 29-36 (.446%) record.
Prior to taking over the helm in August 2004, she served as SU's assistant softball coach for 10 years. Aker was a major part of the success of the Lady Bears softball success in the CIAA helping them to the conference championship in 1994, 1995 and 2003. She was also a major part of the dominance in the CIAA Eastern Division, with four straight titles in 2001-04. It was her input that helped the Lady Bears reach their first ever NCAA Division II National Tournament Berth in 2003.
Aker enjoyed a successful softball career at SU earning team MVP honors each year of her collegiate career. In her senior year the Lady Bears posted a 25-12 mark. She is a 1991 graduate of Shaw University with a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting and Criminal Justice.
