In her last home game as a Lady Bear,
senior catcher Branda Best hit four homeruns as Shaw defeated Livingstone 12-0
and 23-2 in doubleheader softball action at Sanderford Road Park.
In game one, Shena Gunnell-Clark and Best hit back-to-back homers in the first
inning as Shaw scored seven runs in the inning to take a 7-0 lead.
Gunnell-Clark finished 3-for-3 as did senior first baseman Andrea Blake,
Pitcher Felicia Sprattley went five innings giving up only three hits, while
striking out seven. The game was called in the fifth due to the eight-run
mercy rule.
In game two, Best went 3-for-4 with 7 RBI, including a grand slam in the third which capped off a 12-run inning for the Lady Bears. All three of her hits were homers. Sprattley went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI and three runs scored. Marquita Pittman was 3-for-3 with four runs scored.
Shaw is the number one seed in the Eastern Division and will begin play in the CIAA Championships in Petersburg, VA on Wednesday.
