With a late run in the second half Shaw
turned a relatively close game into a lopsided affair as the third-ranked Lady
Bears easily rolled past Virginia Union 101-60.
This is the 46th-straight game Shaw has won over a CIAA
opponent.
Shaw (20-1, 10-0, 5-0) led only 33-28 halftime but opened the second half with
a 21-6 run and led 54-39 on a three-pointer by Joy Hairston with 14:08
remaining. Shaw continued to
pressure the Lady Panthers into turnovers, while making its baskets as was
evidenced by Shaw’s 59 percent shooting in the second half, 53 percent for
the game.
Joy Hairston led the Lady Bears with 24
points. Both Nastassia Boucicault
and Jessica Hawkins recorded double figures in assists with 12 and 10,
respectively. Hawkins also scored
15 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had five steals, while India Lopez had a
career high 15 points. Andrea
Bellany led the Lady Panthers with 24 points.
Shaw
will play at Elizabeth City State on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
